Abstract

The area of ex-Yugoslavia has become one of the most lively laboratories for various scientific observations of social relations in today’s Europe. In the country that ceased to exist, various social changes have been happening in front of the world’s eyes. The public was shocked with the cruel war strategy employing the ethnic cleansing; by horrible sufferings of the innocent civil population and the forced relocations; the so-called exchange of population; destruction and ceaseless bombings of cities and villages of what yesterday was a homeland. Millions of refugees are spread throughout the world. According to UN sources, it is considered that since the beginning of the war in 1991, there have been more than four million refugees from the area of ex-Yugoslavia in the world. Except for the great relocation of the German population immediately after World War Two, this is one of the greatest migration waves in which an autochthonous European population takes part. The main directions of forced ethnic migration will be analysed, and the consideration of the role of displaced populations in the political processes of their states will be made. There is no doubt that there are numerous cases of violation of refugees’ rights all over the region of ex-Yugoslavia, which will be presented.
