Abstract

On the sample consisted of 1491 subjects, who have had different civil status (refugees, returnees and domicile population) from three countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia), a comprehensive battery of measures was applied, with intention to measure: social status, traumatic experience, psychopathology connected with traumatic experience, general psychopathology, personality, self concept and ethnical distance.

The goal of the researche was to find out intensity and correlates of ethnical distance between three ethnical groups from ex Yugoslavia.

The results show us that ethnical distance between three ethnical groups from ex Yugoslavia is still huge but has trend to decrease, especially between Serbs and Croats. Between 10 and 15 percent of people don’t like to see members of other ethnical group, with who were engaged in the war, even as tourist. The largest ethnical distance is widespread within refugees. The most important correlates of ethnical distance are: neuroticism, general and psychopathology connected with traumatic experience as well as global self-efficacy. Pauperisation and traumatic experience connected with war has significant correlation with ethnical distance only on the Bosnian sub sample. Sounds as paradocs that increase of socioeconomic status after the war has positive correlation with ethnical distance on Croatian sample.
